Thursday A Day: Introduction to poetry: We will look at poems of 9/11 as an example of poetry in context.  We will work on SOAPS analysis of poetry and do a SOAPS analysis of the poem “Alabanza: In Praise of Local 100″ for homework.

Friday B day: See Thursday

Monday: We will chart the SOAPS analysis of the homework. We will read the poem, “My Grandmother Washes Her Feet in the Bathroom at Sears” and you will do a SOAPS analysis of the poem for homework. You will also be put in groups today to work on your charting.

Tuesday: B day–see Monday

Wednesday: We will discuss your homework from Monday. You will also learn the TP-CASTT method of analyzing poetry and writing  a theme statement. You will receive two handouts on this. We will TP-CASTT the “Grandmother ” poem in class, and you will finish it for homework.

Thursday: B day–see wednesday.

Friday: I will give your group 15-20 minutes at the beginning of class to revise your theme statement and TP-CASTT; you will receive a group grade. We will begin defining poetry terms in class in groups and you will begin making examples of poetic terms.

Monday A -day. We will finish taking your appositives test, and briefly discuss The Iliad.

Tuesday B-day. See Monday, A-Day.

Wednesday  A-day. We will finish taking notes from the powerpoint on The Iliad. If you are absent, you may get the notes here.

We will also begin reading and discussing Book I. Your homework is to do a double-entry journal, with 5 quotes and the speaker identified, and 5 comments.

Friday A-day. You will take a quiz in Book I of the Iliad and turn in your homework. The quiz is open-note and open book, and we will grade it in class. You will also grade your appositives tests in class.

Monday, October 17, A day—Today you will take an open-book vocabulary test on Antigone, and we will practice Say-Something strategies as we finish reading the play. Don’t forget to turn in your combining and expanding homework  on appositives that we finished last Thursday.

Today you will finish working on your say-something, as well as appositives practice. You should expect a test on appositives, next Tuesday, October 25. You will also receive your information on Socratic seminar for Antigone. We will be doing this on Friday.

 

Thursday, October 20, B-day.

Today you will finish working on your say-something, as well as appositives practice. You should expect a test on appositives, next Wednesday, October 26. You will also receive your information on Socratic seminar for Antigone. Please follow the directions as to how to prepare for it. We will be doing this on Monday.

Friday, October 21, A-day

Today we will be doing Socratic seminar as it relates to the play Antigone. I hope you have prepared.

Last Week of the six weeks.  This is the last week to try and do any extra credit for first six weeks.

9/26 A day–Today we finished taking Antigone quizzes and corrected them in class. We also did some work  on combining and expanding prepositions.  Your homework was to finish the prepositional phrases examples and to TURN IN YOUR MYTH PROJECT ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28.

9/27 B day–Today we finished taking Antigone quizzes and corrected them in class. We also did some work  on combining and expanding prepositions.  Your homework was to finish the prepositional phrases examples and to TURN IN YOUR MYTH PROJECT ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29.

9/28. A day–YOUR PROJECTS ARE DUE TODAY. We will watch the performances, grade the homework on prepositions and continue working on expanding/combing them.

9/29. B day–YOUR PROJECTS ARE DUE TODAY. We will watch the performances, grade the homework on prepositions and continue working on expanding/combing them.

9/30 A day-We will finish viewing the projects.We will continue reading and discussing Antigone. Be prepared for quiz on prepositions and prep. phrases.

Monday 9/12–A day. You will take your test on Avatar/archetypes and will spend the remainder of the class working on a handout on early Greek theater.

Tuesday 9/13 B day. You will work on the handout on Greek theater and then we will spend some time in the computer lab working on your create-your-own-myth project.

Wednesday A day. BRING YOUR TEXTBOOKS! You will compare your notes from the handout to a power point on Greek Theater. We will begin reading and discussing Antigone. You will receive a handout on vocabulary and we will take a quiz on the prologue, scene 1 and 2.

9/8/11.

A Day. Today you will hand in your homework from Avatar and we will be taking the short cycle assessment for the first 30 minutes of class.

We will then be discussing your Create-Your-Own-Myth Project and you will get some time in the computer lab to discuss your options.
